Mike Pence’s Tone-Deaf Response to FBI Raid on Mar-a-Lago Ignores His Role in Enabling the Swamp

Since leaving office in January 2021, former Vice President Mike Pence has been almost radio silent, avoiding much of the furor surrounding J6, or the former Trump administration in which he played an active role.

In February of 2022, he revealed in a speech to the Federalist Society that he had no power to assist Trump in overturning the election, because “the Presidency belongs to the American people.”

So it is surprising that Pence decided to weigh in on Monday’s raid on President Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. Pence is probably seeking to look more “presidential” since he is positioning himself for a 2024 presidential run.

Pence begins his tweet in William Jefferson Clinton fashion, expressing that he really feels our pain.

I share the deep concern of millions of Americans over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump. No former President of the United States has ever been subject to a raid of their personal residence in American history.

Does he, really? Those millions who voted for Donald J. Trump and were taken aback by Pence’s lack of solidarity with Trump’s challenges to the 2020 election certification have their doubts about that.

Pence continued:

After years where FBI agents were found to be acting on political motivation during our administration, the appearance of continued partisanship by the Justice Department must be addressed.

The mess at the DOJ and the FBI has been going on for several administrations: Eight years of Bush-Cheney, eight years of Obama-Biden, and probably long before that. Pence was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2001 and served Indiana under both administrations. In Pence’s 12 years in the House, why did he not address the malfeasance in the DOJ? Instead, in 2001 Pence voted for the Patriot Act, which gave more power to the Department of Justice, and he co-sponsored the legislation in 2009 to extend the library records provision, the roving-wiretap provision, and the lone-wolf provision of the Patriot Act for another 10 years.

So, instead of reining in the deep state, Pence was intent on furthering its aims, which is basically to hold on to power, no matter who holds the highest office.

Where was Pence when Obama Attorney General Eric Holder thumbed his nose at his involvement in Operation Fast and Furious and laughed about being held in contempt of Congress?

These are just a few examples of how an already hubristic agency has been further emboldened under Mike Pence’s watch. The DOJ capriciously targets Americans they do not like while ignoring sexual abuse and rogue agents and protecting those who were in league with the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign’s nefarious agenda to undermine the Trump presidency.

Now that we’ve gotten some daylight on that, one wonders about Pence’s lack of involvement there too. Remember General Michael Flynn? Pence had his hand in that mess, as well.

With his next tweet in the thread we know that Pence is fully out to lunch:

Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately.

Public confidence was undermined when Americans were locked down and removed from their businesses, thanks to Pence, whom President Donald Trump charged to be the head of the COVID Task Force. Pence allowed unelected bureaucrats Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, along with power-hungry governors like New York’s Andrew Cuomo, Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, and California’s Gavin Newsom to run roughshod over civil liberties and individual freedoms, while small businesses were decimated, and the elderly were placed with COVID positive patients stuffed into nursing homes and died.

Then when questionable things occurred during the 2020 election and people were censored, canceled, maligned, and arrested for pointing this out, what was Pence’s response?

He penned a letter and basically walked away. After all, he wasn’t going to let 16 years as an elected official be the end of the road for him. So he put his head down and chose party over country.

So, the “public confidence in the FBI and the Justice Department” ship sailed well over two years ago. Pence would know this had he not been too busy penning his autobiography, being a good Republican “standard bearer” for the chosen GOP-E candidates, and trying to polish whatever bona fides he has left in order to become the party’s chosen one for 2024.
